Healthy Kidney Race Recap

Hi everyone! How's everyone's day going?? I'm so glad you enjoyed Yoga Pose May!
Yesterday Danny and I participated in the Healthy Kidney 10k in Central Park. It was a phenomenal day to be outside and running. My alarm went off at 6:45 and I was up and raring to go. We planned on leaving around 7:30 because we were driving and wanted to leave enough time to find a parking spot. When I got up I had a blueberry muffin so I would have some pre-race fuel. I was going to make coffee, but decided to wait until after the run to have my three cups. Right before we left I had a banana with peanut butter smeared all over it. That turned out to be a perfect amount for my pre-race eats. I was feeling perfectly full, not too much, not too little.
We got in pretty quickly and found a spot actually very easily. I love street parking where you don't have to pay. It makes me want to drive to the city every time, since we only live about 20-25 minutes from it.

Danny was slightly annoyed I wanted to take the camera because he knows what the will result in....and he was right, it ended up in his camera for about 6.3 miles of the 6.2 mile race.

I just told him that my blog readers need pictures...and he only complained for a second was happy to hold it.

The corral before the race. We were in the 6,000 group. What that means I don't know.
I only know I said my pace was 8:30.

The energy of the race was amazing. I think the fact it was an incredible just made everyone so much more excited. I started to get nervous about writing my pace was 8:30 when I saw all the people behind me. I started to question myself, like do I really run an 8:30 pace?? I figured that we were okay and I shouldn't doubt myself because I know how I run, so we stayed where we were.

I felt great during the entire race. The first three miles were a breeze. Our first mile was 8:45 and then we  mostly ran 8:30 miles until the last 2.2 miles, which we ran in 8:00 flat. After checking with the results page on NYRR, we paced at 8:39 per mile and came in at 53:42. I am so proud of us, we started and finished strong and took 5 minutes off our 10k time from September. Not only did we take time off, but at the 10k in September I was huffing much more and the course was way flatter. We came in 3411 (me) and 3412 (Dan...I think he let me go first...) out of 7,800 people.
Cheesy post race pic...check.

We went out to brunch to celebrate our great race. Danny had seen some cute restaurants on 2nd, so we drove down there.  We ended up picking Le Pain Quotidien, at 937 2nd Ave.

They didn't have any outdoor seating in the front, but they had plenty in their cute backyard. It was also perfect because all of their food was organic...score! And you got your own "pot" of coffee..score again!

I got an egg white omelette with asparagus and mushrooms. It came with great whole wheat bread and a mesclun salad. Danny got a black bean hummus sandwich with avocado.

It was outdoor so I felt comfy taking a picture of the food for you all. The food was reasonably priced, organic and delicious. What more do you want out of a restaurant??

All in all it was an amazing day. We had the sun, Central Park, running, great coffee and food....and that was all before 11:00 am.

What did you do this weekend that made you feel proud??
