Why do I run?
When I went for my run on Thursday I was thinking to myself about why I run. Why do I choose that form of exercise 3 days a week? Why not do other things?
I didn't have to think about it long before I came up with my answer. Running is a release for me, whether it be running for 15 minutes or 50, it gives me time to reflect and think about life. It is a stress reliever. It allows me to be present in the moment and think about whatever I want to, without any outside noise. No cell phone, text message or emails, just me, the road, music and/or my husband and my thoughts.
I make my best plans when I run. I can put life into perspective and figure out a problem or situation. Running brings clarity to the most confusing situation. If I am running with my husband we have our best talks when we are hitting the pavement. Running makes me feel successful and like I can do anything.
I love running because I feel free.
I love running because I can breathe easier, physically and emotionally.
I love running because I can be in control.
I love running because the weight of the world is lifted from my shoulders.
I love running because it clears my head.
I love running because I can run.
So with that said.... I'm toying with the idea of doing the half marathon in Philadelphia November 21. Philadelphia has a special place in our hearts because my husband lived there for a couple of years out of college. We were going to move there when we got married when we decided to stay in NY at the last second. Plus Danny and I will be together 7 years on Nov. 21st. I'm trying to use all of these coincidences to get Danny to do it with me. I think I've got him! :)
Do you do what you love?

Wow you remind me of me at your age....use to run all the time....wished now my knee's liked it as much lol.... but the release and energy there is nothing like it and you can eat anything!!!!! So run along lol.....cute post
I used to run a lot. And then I stopped not sure why, but I miss it, and on the rare occasion when I run I feel free also!!! Never been to Philadelphia/ Might need to check it out next time I go to NY to see my sis!!
I am not a runner, but I envy those that are. I am just not good at it. I think there is an art to it and I just don't have it. That being said, I do what I love...interval training, kickboxing and muscle toning. I love getting up when it is still dark out and the house is peaceful...doing my own thing. I clear my head and focus on me for a few minutes!
I wish I could run, so more power to ya girl. Go for that half marathon and smash it!!
I run for many of the same reasons! I'm not the same without it.
I also envy runners. For a while I went through a "I wish I was a runner" phase - but I'm not so sure it's for me :P I'd love to still go out for a mile or so, but I won't have the time on the weekdays to get too involved. Horsey time comes first - which leads me to yes, I do what I love :)
And that sounds too perfect about the marathon - it is definitely meant to be!! Keep us posted :)
I'm with you and love running for so many reasons - I especially notice all the positive benefits from it on the days I don't run!
You know I love running!! I say go for the 1/2! That would be a great race!! :)
I love strength training. I love the way it feels, I love the way I feel after, I love the pain that comes with it. I wish I loved running but I am just not there yet.
I just ran my first half today and it was so much fun!!! You should totally do it!!!
I love running because it feels like an escape for me. Like you, I just let myself get lost in my thoughts, and somehow everything seems clearer when I'm finished hitting the pavement.
Running is everything you said and so much more. Way to put words on it. (:
i'm doing the half marathon in philly sept 19, the rock n roll one! i can't wait!
oh i love this....i too run/ride for some of the same reasons-i think the half would be great!
Love this post, I love your reasons to run :)
Love your reasons for running, I was dead set against it, afraid of gravity pulling at my fascia and loosening things up, afraid of hurting my knees. But I could care less now, I am enjoying the outdoors more, and hubby is training me to run again. I am going to get it this time. Before I could only do it on the treadmill. I have very wide hips for my frame and have to pay attention to my form as to not hurt my knees when running or strength training.
Hi! I am a huge fan but never commented on your blog before. I love running too! (Always have.) Your posts are inspiring :)
Great post! I'm considering Philly as well :)
