Helloooo! What’s up with this heat? It’s what is on everyone’s mind, right? Danny and I got up to run this morning and at 5:30 am it was already 80 degrees! I don’t even sweat that much, but I was sweating a couple of minutes into my run. I don’t even get how it’s possible. This makes me ready for fall. Mainly because I hate cooking/turning my oven on when it’s so hot. Anyone else? I’m ready for chili, soup, stir fries and everything else I’ve been avoiding cooking.
Oh and, I am SORE from Bob Harper’s DVD yesterday. It’s mainly my shoulders, back and butt that are sore, but I can feel it all over….
With back to school/work in the air, I thought it would be fun to post my favorite tips for having a successful start to my school year.
2. If you are on a budget and have some time, buy dried beans. Beans are SO versatile and filling and dried beans are cheaper than their canned counterparts. It takes longer to prepare, but cook them all at once and they will last a couple of days. You can make hummus, bean burgers or just simply mix them with rice. 3. Plan ahead. Make big batches of rice, quinoa, barley, or any other grain so you can reheat it during the week. You will save time that way. 4. Cook multiple meals at once. Make an entire package of fish, chicken, burgers on one night. If you can, go to Trader Joe’s and buy their wild fish. It’s SO reasonably priced and will last 2-3 meals, depending on what you get. It works for lunch or dinner. 5. Make your lunches on Sunday and bring them to work/school. I always prepare everything for the week on Sunday, so I don’t have to spend time during the week. It saves so much time, bypasses the possibility of a slip-up and you can be lazy during the week. I make everything on Sunday, down to putting salad dressing in small containers. 6. Have healthy snacks available. Pre-portion out nuts, chips, crackers, etc so you can grab a bag/container without worrying you will mindlessly eat more than you should. Make your own 100 calorie packs (or whatever the serving size is) it’s cheaper AND healthier than buying the packaged versions. *Healthier because most of those packaged versions have HFCS and a laundry list of ingredients. Buy/make hummus/guacamole for a healthy snack with crackers, carrots, peppers, celery and/or zucchini sticks. 7. Find what workout and time works best for you.If you are a morning person like me, wake up and squeeze it in before work. If you are a night person, workout after work. Do what works for you! Brendan Brazier’s tip always sticks in my head: find something you love to do and you will stick to it. If you love running, run, if you don’t, then don’t. 8. Bake these muffins and eat them for breakfast or a quick snack! Making Good Choices Blog
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grind the flax seed, add water and set aside. (I used my coffee grinder.)Making Good Choices Blog
2. Process oats in food processor until it’s a flour like consistency. (This step is optional, you can use the oats as is if you’d like.)
3. Add flax eggs, oats, banana, egg, sugar, spelt flour and applesauce to a large bowl. Mix well.
4. Add baking soda and powder. Mix then add blueberries. Fold in to batter.
5. Grease a muffin pan.
6. Spoon batter into pan. Bake for 15-17 minutes and let cool on cooling rack.
Enjoy! I think it’s time for a nap or maybe food shopping, considering my fridge is EMPTY!

Awesome tips girlie! I definitely need to put some of these into action asap! And seriously what is with the heat!? I was a mess on my run this morning after 2 minutes…the humidity is nuts!
Great tips! I love these, especially now that the school year has started for me again.
The heat– ugh. Ours is only supposed to last for one more day…thank goodness!!!

Totally lovin all the muffin recipes!! I am going to be baking some next week as well, fall season makes me crave big carb loaded muffins
I always have to have a snack on me. If I get hungry and there are no decent options its not pretty. Either my attitude if I absolutely refuse to eat whats available…or my stomach from eating something I don’t care for.

Those muffins looks fantastic!!
You’re not showing up in my google reader
I just re-added you
Great tips! Especially the one about bringing food. I constantly have food on me and it really helps when there is nothing around!
I love the tips! I can relate to so many of them, even if I do sometimes get silly looks for being so prepared with food! haha. There’s not many options around, and I eat about every two hours anyways…so long road trips + no yum food for Jess = bad news bears.
These muffins look really great, too. I love baking a batch or two of muffins and popping them in the freezer to eat whenever. I don’t even bother leaving more than one or two out anymore – they taste as good as they did when they came out of the oven after a quick reheat!
Here’s hoping for a big cool-down tomorrow – fingers crossed!

I think my purse is a bottomless pit for bars of all kinds. These are all great tips for every day and for traveling. We went all over NYC and saved SO much by throwing bars and the like in our bags so we weren’t stopping every hour to get something (ridiculously priced) to nosh on.

awesome tips!! i hear ya on #7, it’s so important to find an exercise you love, otherwise working out feels like a chore and you’ll be less likely to stick with it. i fell in love with running 4 years ago and will probably do it for the rest of my life
