Yes, I’m posting twice in one day. No, there’s not something wrong. I have something to share from a near and dear friend.
I love photography, even if I’m not very good at it. In the past year I’ve definitely gotten better, but I’m still not great or anything close to that. After seeing one of my friend’s pictures of her recent trip to New Hampshire I was like, “how the heck do you take such good pictures??”
She emailed me some quick tips, that I figured I’d share with you.
Take it away Jo!:
I’m a novice photographer… but I love taking pictures of anything & everything. These are some little tid-bits I’ve come used for the past year or so that have really helped me out..
- Try to keep your focus centered. Watch out for too much height on top of the picture (where you’re cropping off legs), or vise versa.
- If your focus is off-center, balance it out! (with color, another object that’s larger/smaller, etc.)
- Close ups of people & animals are fun, and make great gifts).
- Black & white pictures are always nice, but try sepia tone. It’s really beautiful.
- iPhoto works MIRACLES! Get it, play with all the settings, and your pictures will wow people.
Aren’t her pictures gorgeous? and she’s pretty too! Be sure to check out her smug mug page to see more of her pics!

I LOVE sepia tones too! Natural light is a huge thing for me. I take horrible pictures in night light! Thank you for sharing this Nicole. Her photos are beautiful!
Yay! now we just have to work on getting you a super nice camera =)
Great tips!! Honestly, I think the thing that has helped me to most develop my photography skills has just been to take a TON of pictures!
I have no tips:( I need all the tips I can get!
GREAT tips! I love your photos! And I never mind if you post more than once in a day!
Thanks for the photo tips! Your pictures are beautiful and improving my blog photos is kind of a New Year’s resolution for me.
