I’ll be the first to say it’s SO easy to focus on material items. I love these Tory Burch flats or this bathing suit from JCREW, but every once in awhile life gives us a gentle reminder of the important things in life. The things we should focus on everyday, the things that really MATTER.
I’m so lucky to have people/thing/opportunities in my life that I am SO grateful for. Words can’t describe how lucky I feel, despite the sad times in my life. A lot of things I have in life, I like to think, are because of my positive attitude and my optimistic view on life and the world. Sometimes, we do get a glimpse of the evil in the world, which can be life-changing and scary.
Instead of focusing on the evil, or the scary, I’m going to continue living my life positively. How am I going to this this? Well, for one I’m going to focus on my gratitude list.
Back when Lent started I told you I was going to name someone I am grateful for everyday. I have continued to do this, although I don’t write it on my blog each day. I have kind of transformed it into saying 3 people/things I’m grateful for each night. I do it right before I go to sleep, sometimes I tell Danny, sometimes I just say it to myself.

How to Get Started The amazing things is that there is no right or wrong way to make this list. Just pick up a pen, or close your eyes and start writing or thinking about all you are grateful for. Nothing is too big or small to go on this list. You can start with something like the sunrise, because you are grateful for a new day. Food to eat, shelter, etc. Keep it away from material items. Take a good look around and see all that you are thankful for. As the days pass you have a record of all the things you have in your life, and that is enough to turn anyone’s mood around. I can promise you that just by starting this list, whether written or mental, it will help ease your anxiety’s and let you focus on what you do have in your life.

I’ll start you off with some things on my gratitude list:
1. My co-op for providing us with safe shelter for the past 3 years.
2. My job for giving us financial security and health care.
3. My family and friends, who make us rich in laughter, support, memories and love.
I promise you that if you start doing this your will reduce anxiety and change your outlook on life. I know it seems kooky but it works!
What is on your gratitude list?
