Breakfast. We really need to talk about it. Breakfast just may be my favorite meal of the day. I think about breakfast when I go to bed at night. Normal? Not sure. I never claimed to be normal though.
Anyway…we’ve all heard it’s the most important part of the day. Your mother probably tried to tell you that too.
Is it the truth?
I fully believe it. Whether you are a breakfast eater or not, you should become one. There are so many benefits to eating breakfast, it gets your metabolism going and refuels your brain & body after sleep.
Want even more benefits? (source)
Sure. How about…
- Improved mental performance.
- Improved mood.
- Provides essential nutrients.
- Less likely to snack on less healthier foods later in the day.
- more balanced diet
- helps lose weight & keep weight off
Before you go picking up your box of Fruity Pebbles, let me just say that these benefits apply if you have a NUTRITIOUS breakfast.
A balanced breakfast is a combination of complex carbohydrates and protein.
Need some examples…gladly.
- Oatmeal with fruit and even nut butter. (Here is a VERY comprehensive roundup of oatmeal recipes thanks to my girl Janetha!)
- Quinoa breakfast
- Eggs and whole grain toast.
- Green Smoothie with kale
- Chobani yogurt with Pure Bliss Eats granola (shameless plug )
and my latest favorite….
Protein Pancakes!
I have made these in the past, but I have to say, previously, I almost spit them out. I finally found a new recipe from Tone it Up and I LOVE them. I didn’t actually think they would be good, but I actually love them AND Danny and my sister love them. When I test them on “normal” people and they like them, I know they are good!
I use this exact recipe, but use chia instead of flax. I also use Vega vanilla protein powder.
Usually I have this with raw almond butter (homemade this week!!) and jelly. This morning I decided to get creative and make some chia jelly. I’m sure there are lots of recipes out there, but I just made this one up.
Combine mixed berries and water. (If using frozen berries, either let come to almost room temperate or microwave for 30 seconds.) Using a blender or immersion blender, blend until combined. Move to a small bowl. Add chia and agave and mix. Let sit for at least 5 minutes to gel up.
Now go on and make this a part of your daily habit. Breakfast is no joke. Do it for a week and come tell me how much better you feel!
Do you eat breakfast? What is your favorite breakfast?

Oh I eat breakfast every day! In fact, sometimes I go to bed bc I can’t wait to get up and eat breakfast haha. My fav. breakfast as of late? PB + banana toast.
that’s me too!
Breakfast IS my favorite meal of the day! I NEVER understood it when friends would tell me they either hate breakfast or skip it because they don’t need/want it. That’s crazy talk and seriously unhealthy, in my mind, anyway. Great post – right on!!
oatmeal with nut butter and an egg whisked in almost every morning.
Breakfast is not only the most important meal of the day but also my favorite! On my days, the thought of breakfast is what gets me out of bed.
Right now, I’m really loving protein cereal with oats, protein powder, PB, a banana, and almond milk.

Yes people, for the love of god please eat breakfast! I do not understand how people skip it. Eating breakfast lowers your risk of every disease imaginable. I usually make pancakes because it’s so easy to throw together whatever I need and cook ‘em up!
I love breakfast…but I’m never one to turn down ANY meal
I definitely agree with you on breakfast – and I love your jelly! ^^ That’s how I make my raw vegan jellies as well! My favorite breakfast would be vegan spam musubi and ume, pancakes, scrambled chickpeas with cauliflower or tofu, some sort of curry or some sort of veggie sausages….I like breakfast a lot. hehe
Thanks for the shout So, I was one of those people who thought if I didn’t eat breakfast, I would lose all my muscle and my hard effort lifting weights in the gym would be all for naught.. But I grew up skipping breakfast really often, like in high school, and then changed to being very strict about making sure to eat it. And now, I do eat it most days, but if I miss it I dont FLIP OUT like I used to. Also, I am interested in learning more about IF–I know lots of people have hopped on this wagon and have leaned out and actually built more lean muscle with this method. However, I love breakfast so much and skipping it every day would be sad.. even if the calories are made up later in the day! My favorite breakfasts are French toast, runny eggs with toast, or a simple bowl of cereal. XOXO
i’ve heard of that…. actually Angry Trainer (Alfonso Morretti) has done IF. I wonder if he’s done a blog post on it.
I eat breakfast every day. Some days it may be just the crusts of my son’s PB&J + the other half of my older son’s apple (eaten as I’m packing their lunches LOL), but usually it’s either oatmeal, crustless quiche (recipe on my site) or PB&J.
#truth- sometimes i’m so excited to eat breakfast that i wish i didn’t have to go to sleep in order to be able to wake up and eat it!
we eat breakfast, but we also try to wait a few hours and drink water before really eating anything as we have noticed this helps with our ‘time’ in the bathroom I know pretty topic to discuss but it is true. plus we tend to try to workout in morning so our breakfast are not as big. but do believe in eating something in the morning.
I am a huge breakfast person. When I was a kid my mom would laugh because I would literally eat breakfast before going to the bathroom in the morning. I love it! Lately I have been alternating between a green smoothie or protein pancakes with 2 very over easy eggs!
Hi I just found your blog through fitfluential! I also LOVE breakfast! It’s my favorite meal, if I don’t eat it I feel so sluggish and gross!
