Morning! How was your weekend? Seems like I write this every Monday. This weekend we celebrated my cousin Jess’s graduation with a little party at my house.
With all the great ideas I find on Pinterest, I wanted to do something fun for Jess’s party. I wanted to do something to label all of the food we were putting out and at first I was thinking mini chalk boards. After seeing that they were about $6-8 a piece, I wanted to do something a little more reasonable. I found a great idea to use corner tiles as white boards, but as a teacher, I know how easy they would smudge. I kicked it up and notch and used some blackboard paint I bought (to do nothing with) months ago.
Jess and I got to work on Saturday and painted 8 corner tiles and 1 8×8 tile. They were both just white and cost a total of about $13.00 (not including blackboard paint.) I love the idea of this because you can use them over and over again and they are super cute.
Cover a table carefully so no paint will splatter. Make sure you mix up paint well with a paint stick. Using a paint brush, coat the tiles with the blackboard paint. Let dry or blow dry until it’s 95% dry. Paint a second coat. Depending on how smooth it goes on, after the second coat dries, touch up any spots that need it. Let dry overnight. The directions suggest you “condition” the board with chalk the next day, which just means rubbing chalk on the board and wiping it off. We didn’t do this and just wrote on it immediately and it worked perfectly.
This was one of my first DIY projects since my wedding 4 years ago, I’d say it worked out pretty well!
One more pic from the party:
I’m off to go for a walk and continue my workday!
Have a good one!
